Marlene and Fred Katrow say while they were cruising at the beginning of the outbreak, they were assured they were safe – but both got COVID-19.pandemic, setting sail for the first time since the industry was shut down months ago and using strict precautions to keep passengers and crew as safe as possible.
Occupancy was limited to 60% so passengers could keep their distance from one another, but even that level was not reached. The ship sailed off with 1,200 passengers on board compared to its normal 2,900 capacity. It was not reported how many crew were also on board. On board, passengers and crew are required to stay 1.5 meters away from one another or wear protective masks and they will not be able to serve themselves at the ship’s buffet. All passengers also had to fill out a health questionnaire before boarding and have their temperatures taken.
Starting Aug. 5, the AIDA cruise operator will sail from Hamburg with its first trip since the pandemic shut operations down months ago, with a second to leave on Aug. 12 from Rostock and a third departing on Aug. 16 from Kiel, dpa reported.

We will see. The cruise company is really serious & professional, no joking ... ... but does it makes sense at this period ? As they have to stay 24h on board, no land excursion, no buffet, each day health check etc. ... For evtl. hospital cost later, please pay yourselves

I can see into the future that's so hilarious.. two weeks later.. That evening, the company announced that the sick crew member tested positive for COVID-19. Everyone on board would be limited to crew areas, including smaller, crowded crew dining halls...

1200 passengers seems like a lot, but it will be interesting to find out what officials and the industry learn from the cruise. I hope the passengers are quarantined once they return to port🤔
There should be a TV crew on that ship. It would be an extremely successful reality show given people's interest in covid & its remedies. In addition, it would be an exceptional reality show: one that is actually about reality without any cosmetic dressing.
