Officials say they found up to 8 people locked in a Georgia pastor's basement.

Curtis Keith Bankston and Sophia Simm-Bankston were running the unlicensed"group home" out of their rented Griffin house"under the guise of a church known as One Step of Faith 2nd Chance," the Griffin Police Department said in a statement.

The Bankstons controlled the finances, medications and public benefits of the people they were keeping in the basement and had sometimes denied them their medications and medical care, according to police. "It is both frightening and disgusting to see the degree to which these individuals have been taken advantage of by people who were in a position of trust," the police statement said.said Curtis Keith Bankston is committed to"feeding the hungry,""clothing the naked,""housing the homeless" and"helping the brokenhearted find a way out through Christ.

Glad they have been found and now safe

It’s OK… they weren’t Americans !

wow

😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

WTH 😲😲😲

That’s fucked.

Up to eight people ... They don't know how many they actually found. Weird headline. Maybe they only found seven and a half people.

Religion in the US is simply a crooked, money making enterprise. The only people who are better off are the pastors and the leaders. Time to revoke Tax Exempt Status to churches. I think the scam artists (Joel Osteen) will resign in a heartbeat. Time to take back religion.

…. ‘ and the Lord said, keep people in your house without concent’ ; Is that Old or New Testament I always get that confused …

Must be Democrats since they seem to be the only one that wanted take away our freedoms and imprison us

Evil is sadly a dime a dozen and many of them hide in plain sight, looking ever so 'good' - from the outside. Also sadly, too many good-hearted people blow off the red flags that fly when they may momentarilyslip and show their true hateful, cold selves...

This is why people who proclaim themselves Christians are usually lying!

Weird religions in the south

Very sad case. Hope they are punished to the fullest extent of the law.

MenendezRand so much madness, religions used by psychopaths, that's why not religions or politics. they are just a hoax

Awful.

what the hell

😯

Oh I hate it when you get a faulty deadbolt from Home Depot that accidentally locks 8 people in your basement.

Voter suppression

Georgia is messed up. Full stop.

Disgusting

A Pastor. Seriously? The hypocrisy of 'Christian' leaders strikes again. Why anyone would choose to be part of this oppressive religion, I'll never understand.

🤮

Well, it's what Jesus would have wanted.

Only in America. God bless the USA

Christianity at its core.

Gotta love those Southerners - lol

Lock them up for good!

What is wrong with people? Dear lord.

Yet another example of why I don’t do the church thing. The worst people always claim to be Christian. Not a club I want to be in.

Look God already knows your hearts I'm just like God I'm not playing now get serious or get gone

Why were they locked up ?

StitchPomAndMom They were “free to leave” but there’s a deadbolt on the door? Dear lawyers, sometimes putting up the best defense is just admitting guilt. And, how did the state not know their “wards” were imprisoned?

'...the people in the basement, all with mental or physical disabilities,...' 'The Bankstons controlled the finances, medications and public benefits of the people they were keeping in the basement and had sometimes denied them their medications and medical care,... '

What's the back story? A lot of Elmer Gantrys out there running a scam on vulnerable people who conceivably end up in a basement for a variety of reasons. Are they still alive?

Read the story. They were placed there by the state. Something is not right with the police side of this. Waiting for more facts. The headline is definitely misleading.

RockyMountViews Omg

religiouscult

annawrock the 8 probably still had some money in their bank accounts

Правознавци США вопрос для красной черты. Если страна вмешивается в жизнь другой страны лишая её мирной жизни это не терроризм? Какие страны после развала СССР терроризируют другие страны лишая их мирной, счастливой жизни? В основном только РФ.

Who is ever responsible for placing people their from there state needs to be investigated.

tomigoldnet Wtf?

Maybe they were just quarantining then in the good lords name?

When are people going to start seeing religious extremists in the US are terroristic and evil? It doesn't matter the religion. Christians can be as evil as anyone else, more so because they believe they are solely righteous.

This is just bizarre.

Up to 8 people? So they’re not sure how many they found?

Not shocked

Throw the book at the pastor and his wife.

Misleading headline.... 'Pastor who took in the homeless and disabled ACCUSED of false imprisonment.' Now go and fix that. Goodness! Clickbait

Wonders shall never end! And what were they doing with them?

Investigators determined the people in the basement, all with mental or physical disabilities, or both, were 'essentially imprisoned against their will, which created an extreme hazard as the individuals could not exit the residence if there were an emergency,' police said.

The 'holiest' and most judgemental are usually the most evil deep down.

'Up to' 8?

Florida man charged after 4 found dead at Canada-US borderA Florida man has been charged with human smuggling after the bodies of four people, including a baby and a teen, were found in Canada near the U.S. border. Horrible story. Aided over the last 2 years by the lying media What brain-iacs want to build a wall along the northern border now also? And waste taxpayer money on more things that don’t work. (Hint: they come by boat/water the more walls you build) Concept might be ideal, but just not realistic.
