Guy Ritchie,J.D.,Adaptations Of Sherlock Holmes

The British filmmaker has given us a pantheon of fascinating characters in his crime movies, with manners both gentlemanly and ungentlemanly

Guy Ritchie ’s two-and-a-half-decade career as a filmmaker has been a bit of a mixed bag, and that’s being generous. No one really wants to be pigeonholed, but the fact is that some artists are especially suited to one particular genre, and they do their best work when they stick to it. For Ritchie, that genre is quintessentially British crime capers.

These rules, like “You can only get smarter by playing a smarter opponent,” are ultimately just a plot device to get to the real point Ritchie is trying to make—that it’s the ego that gets in the way of success in life. Statham’s character may have been physically released from prison, but he’s not mentally free until he overcomes his own ego. No matter which ending you watch , the film’s message is the same.
