MONTGOMERY – Geneva basketball standout Evan Griffin left Montgomery Tuesday without any hardware following the Alabama Sports Writers Association 2024 Basketball Player of the Year Banquet, but was honored and thankful to have been considered.
Micah Caster, a 6-foot-1 senior guard for state champion Jackson, was voted the classification’s player of the year by ASWA Prep Committee members. Davis Dare, a 5-foot-9 senior guard from state runner-up American Christian, was the other finalist. Griffin was the lone player in the Wiregrass – girl or boy – to be a finalist for a state player of the year award. A player had to be selected first-team all-state by ASWA members to be eligible.
