General Motors was one of a handful of car companies—including Fiat Chrysler, Toyota and 10 other automakers—to support the Trump administration lawsuit last year against California, dividing the auto industry. In her letter, Barra urged Fiat Chrysler and Toyota to pull out of the lawsuit as well, though she did not endorse California’s emissions standards.The decision by General Motors to pull out of the lawsuit is a pivot from its stance over the past several years. General Motors was one of several companies to push President Trump to dismantle Obama-era tailpipe regulations when he took office in 2017.
