Gen. David Petraeus, the retired 4-star general who led troops into battle during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, tells MarthaRaddatz he doesn't see parallels between the lead-up to Iraq and the current escalating tensions between the United States and Iran:

Gen. David Petraeus, the retired four-star general who led troops into battle during the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, said he doesn't see parallels between the lead-up to that war and the current escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.

"He's after what Secretary Pompeo has announced as the objective, which is regime behavior change," he said. Earlier this month, the United States deployed an aircraft carrier strike group and a bomber task force to the Middle East in response to"clear indications" Iran or its proxies were planning on attack on U.S. forces in the region, U.S. officials told ABC News. The Pentagon announced on May 10 it was sending a Patriot anti-missile battery to the area as well as further deterrence.

The president has dismissed a New York Times story that reported the administration was reviewing a plan to send as many as 120,000 troops to the region if Iran attacked U.S. forces. "And I think any thoughts about invading Iran -- again, rightly, the president has shelled those, I think -- that would be an enormous undertaking," he added."And he's right in his assessment, we would need heck of a lot more troops than that, were we ever do something like that."

"President Trump has been quite clear about this. He would welcome communication, and apparently would be willing to sit down, himself," he said.

MarthaRaddatz In other words ' don't worry, it won't happen... But it will'

MarthaRaddatz He did not LEAD troops into battle. It was the platoon, company, and battalion commanders that led the troops into battle.

MarthaRaddatz Of course not, he’s been blind all along.

MarthaRaddatz It was a mistake then and it will be a mistake now.

MarthaRaddatz The look on her face was that she was almost upset that he wouldn’t say Trump was leading us into war. I mean after all he is going to start World War III according to the media and the left.

MarthaRaddatz And lied to the troops, had sex with an extremely junior officer and a major scandal. All is not forgotten.

MarthaRaddatz The MSM has got us in a war with Iran. They didnt mind President Obama giving Iran money. They didnt mind when his AG caused race problems. Didnt mind when the Russians hacked the DNC. AS for the invasion of Iraq. Congress and Senate approved it.

MarthaRaddatz Evidently he means there wasn't a moronic, reckless, uninformed narcissist running the country back then, as there is today.

MarthaRaddatz I served under Petraeus as a member of the 101st. I have no issues with his leadership. I do have issues with him defending General Bone Spurs.

MarthaRaddatz Fired guy

MarthaRaddatz You mean the non existent WMDs?

MarthaRaddatz Do you mean David Petraeus, the former CIA director, who resigned in disgrace after a sex scandal?

MarthaRaddatz PETRAEUS? MORE LIKE BETRAY US!!

MarthaRaddatz Maybe if MarthaRaddatz was lying next to him in bed he would tell her more! 😂

MarthaRaddatz lol. They are both based on lies

MarthaRaddatz No that's just Clown Trump telling a lot lies. Here you got a kid playing games
