Gasoline Tax Holiday ‘Worth Considering,’ Yellen Says

Federal policy makers should consider a temporary gasoline-tax holiday to ease the burden of soaring fuel prices, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Sunday.

“Gas prices have risen a great deal and it’s clearly burdening households,” she said on ABC’s “This Week.” “That’s an idea that’s certainly worth considering.”

Treasury Secretary Yellen has also said that inflation is transitory .

Not sure this is going to work as intended

Because God forbid the underlying economic problems be addressed. 🙄

A tax holiday will do nothing. Price to customer won't change. Oil cos will pocket the difference. Lost tax will cause the government to print money, so inflation. Price has to rise to point consumers change behavior in order to reduce demand and see prices decline.

As opposed to trying to bring them down

This is a terrible idea. It would only serve to increase demand, perhaps significantly, which would drive prices even higher. Not the way to handle this problem. Did these people ever really study economics?

Tax holiday just means raising taxes elsewhere or more borrowing.
