I haven’t read the article yet, but I suspect the producers did that (dark scenes & settings) to save on production costs AND to make everyone feel discombobulated and anxious.
Turn ur brightness up on the tv and it helps.
I’ve watched a lot of night scenes that were realistic AND I could see what was going on. This was one of the worst. I couldn’t see a thing and have no idea the fate of some major characters. I shouldn’t have to “buy a new tv” (to quote many on Twitter) to see what’s happening.

You guys it was dark because they were trying to make it realistic... just not realistic enough to put helmets on the main characters.

Firstly IT WAS NIGHT! 2ndly I had my house lights out and had an ambient light string behind my HDTV. I didn't have a problem. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

It is dark so they save money on special effects. Covers up lots. I insist on turning out the lights for romance for the same reason.

I liked the lighting. It made you feel like you were there. I liked all the smoke and dust too because you got that feeling of looking across the battlefield, seeing someone dying, and trying to see if it’s someone you love but not being sure

Switched to hbogo via AppleTV from verizonfios and it was like watching an entirely different episode. Quality was 💯 better.
I just figured it was supposed to make us feel more *in* the scene. It was dark af out there and only got brighter with the fire. Like yes, it's terrifying to be standing in the pitch black and OH LOOK SUDDENLY A WW IS NOSE TO NOSE WITH YOU 😳
