From son of an English cab driver to US Attorney, Alamdar Hamdani is 'thankful' for his new role

to South Asian and Muslim community members interviewed by the FBI after the Sept. 11 attacks.

U.S. Attorney Alamdar “Al” Hamdani answers questions from reporters Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, at the U.S. Attorney’s office in Houston. Hamdani was sworn in Dec. 12, 2022 as the 24th presidentially-appointed U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas. He is also the first Asian American to hold that office in that district.President Joe Biden nominated Hamdani to become the 24th U.S. Attorney in the SDTX in December 2022. He will overseeing 408 employees and 220 assistant U.S.

Hamdani takes pride in the first South Asian to become a U.S. attorney, Amul Roger Thapar, offering him a job as an AUSA in the Eastern District of Kentucky. Thapar is currently serving as a U.S. circuit judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. "She is 4-foot-10 and feisty as can be," Hamdani said about his mother."Imagine the mother from 'Everybody Loves Raymond,' but my mama is a shorter Indian version of that woman."

Mujumdar said Hamdani's staff and the SDTX are in good hands because his friend is not only one of the best lawyers he knows, but he's also"one of the best people."
