From blocking shots to calling the shots, U.S. women’s defender Kelley O’Hara is trading the soccer pitch for the big screen, stepping into the role of an executive producer.

Anderson needed another executive producer and found O’Hara to be the right fit, given her strong ties to soccer and the LGBTQIA+ community. The U.S. soccer international then signed up with her fiancée, Kameryn Stanhouse, who runs O’House Productions. The directors wanted a storyline similar to the dreamlike romance of “Before Sunrise” or “Call Me By Your Name”, but for lesbians. That’s how they came up with “Ripe!”“It is this idea of ripening into who you truly are,” O’Hara explained. “There are notes of figuring out your sexuality and just like as a relationship grows and ripens into hopefully like a perfect right piece. Like a beautiful ending and exactly how you would want it to be.

With “Ripe!” set to premiere at The Tribeca Festival next week, O’Hara is poised to make a significant impact off the field, championing queer visibility through powerful storytelling.
