From car CEO to international fugitive, here's the wild, Hollywood-blockbuster story of Carlos Ghosn:

A former Green Beret and his son played the parts of musicians. Instead of performing a concert, they smuggled Ghosn out of the country inside of a large instrument case. Ghosn, who stands about 5 foot 6, fit into a 6-foot-tall, double-base case. He was whisked away in a private jet to Istanbul, Turkey then rerouted to his home country of Lebanon where he’s seen as a hero. Interestingly, Lebanon doesn’t have an extradition treaty with Japan.

Ghosn told the press after his escape that he wasn’t running away. Instead, he had to “escape injustice.” Ghosn maintained that it's impossible for him to have a fair and impartial trial in Japan due to its “hostage justice” legal system. He claimed he would “no longer be held hostage by a rigged Japanese justice system.” In a statement, Ghosn said, “I have not fled justice.” He added, “I have escaped injustice and political persecution.
