Friendswood girls take third at state swim meet

Swimmers warm up before the Class 5A portion of the UIL State Swimming and Diving Championships at Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, in Austin.AUSTIN — The Friendswood girls only reached the podium twice Saturday.

“It was kind of a rough start for us yesterday , but the girls really picked it up today,” Friendswood coach Craig Sikkema said. “We knew what we had to do to get on the podium. They swam fantastic. Every point counts, and we go into this meet saying exactly that.” The Mustangs entered the final event of the day with a slim chance to slide into the No. 2 spot. They delivered a fourth-place finish at 3:34.52, but it was not quite enough to overtake Prosper Rock Hill. The team of Jeanes, Nelson, LeBlanc and Leah Givens finished with a time of 3:34.52.
