French schoolchildren have greeted dozens of U.S. World War II veterans with a big poster saying ‘’thank you'' as they arrived on Monday in Normandy. The veterans are commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Many are in their 100s.

You have always decided to educate the younger generation so that we never forget. Thank you for your commitment, thank you for the sacrifices you have made.

Bob Gibson, 100, was drafted into the Army in 1943 and was sent to Britain. On June 6, 1944, Bob and his unit landed on Utah Beach in the second wave of Allied landings. The veterans will take part in parades, school visits and ceremonies — including the official June 6 commemoration of the landings by soldiers from across the United States, Britain, Canada and other Allied nations on five beaches.
