Biden’s plan to make COVID-19 tests and N95 masks accessible to Americans comes nearly two years after the first coronavirus cases arrived in the United States.

“It’s very late in the game,“ said Dr. Grant Fowler, family medicine department chair at Texas Christian University School of Medicine in Fort Worth and chairman of the family medicine department at JPS Health Network. He acknowledged that the continuing uncertainty over the pandemic will make free tests — and masks — helpful.

She said she ordered the free tests not because she was in dire need, but because she knows that others, like her neighbors, family or friends might be in need. Shearer, who has three elementary-school-aged children, said the number of tests is not enough for his family of five. “With the delays we’ve experienced with mail, I didn’t anticipate getting them so quickly,” she said in a written statement.
