Fort Worth homicide victim, Gene Bass, was a retired Army veteran and worked as a JROTC instructor with Crowley ISD.

last week in Fort Worth was identified as a retired master sergeant in the U.S. Army and an instructor for Crowley ISD’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program.as an outstanding educator and colleague, who “touched the lives of countless students and staff,” news outlets reported. A Crowley ISD spokesperson did not immediately return an email request for comment Monday.Bass was a good father with a good heart, one of his sons, Michael Bass, told KXAS-TV .

The suspect approached Bass and Bass said “something to the effect of, ‘Boy, stop playing with that gun before you shoot someone,’” an officer wrote in the affidavit.Jail records in Lowndes County, where Xavier Bass was arrested Saturday, list him as still in custody as of Monday.
