Fort Worth gorilla Jameela gets new foster mom at Cleveland zoo

Jameela, the Fort Worth Zoo ’s baby gorilla, may have found her forever family more than 1,000 miles away after a successful introduction to a mother gorilla in Ohio . Jameela was born at the Fort Worth Zoo four to six weeks early in an emergency C-section, but her mother failed to bond with her for unknown reasons. The zoo attempted to introduce Jameela to their other female gorillas, but neither showed enough interest in caring for her.

Authorities seize 400 pounds of illegally caught red snapper off Texas coast Zoo staff placed Jameela in a nest to give her the best chance for the gorillas to accept her as one of their own, and what resulted was the first time she was picked up properly by a female gorilla, according to the video. “We can train them to do all sorts of things, but what we want them to do is want to do those behaviors. And to see that in action here was just an honor,” said Associate Animal Curator Laura Klutts.
