Former RNC Chairman Reince Priebus argued NBC News failed in its hiring process of Ronna McDaniel, who was employed by the network for less than a week.

following backlash from NBC and MSNBC show hosts criticizing the decision. Priebus, who was chairman of the RNC from 2011 to 2017, said that he believed NBC made a critical error in not having McDaniel meet with various employees of the network before hiring her.

“The root of the problem is that the management never brought her in before the contract was signed so that all of this stuff could get worked out, and that was a huge failure in my opinion,” Priebus, a contributor for ABC, explained on Sunday. Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile said that she did not understand NBC’s hiring of McDaniel, though she did wish the former RNC chairwoman “good luck” going forward.

NBC News Chairman Cesar Conde announced McDaniel’s firing in an email to staffers, taking accountability for her hiring and saying that her hiring had undermined the cohesion of the company.for two years, as she did not breach the terms of the deal. According to a source familiar with McDaniel, she reportedly spoke with attorney Bryan Freedman, who has represented ousted news anchors such as Megyn Kelly, Chris Cuomo, Don Lemon, and Tucker Carlson.
