LONDON — The British prime minister who called the Brexit referendum and then saw the public vote to leave the European Union says he is sorry for the divisions it has caused.
“I deeply regret the outcome and accept that my approach failed,” he said. “The decisions I took contributed to that failure. I failed.” He spoke to The Times newspaper to promote his soon-to-be-published memoir. Cameron, who had supported remaining in the EU, resigned the morning after the 2016 referendum. He has stayed out of electoral politics since then and largely kept out of the public eye.
Johnson faces an Oct. 31 deadline for leaving the EU and has been instructed by Parliament to seek an extension, which he says he will not do despite concerns that leaving without a deal would cause severe economic problems and possible food and medicine shortages. He will meet with European leaders Monday to search for some compromise.
Weak and pathetic!
Whoops!
It was an internal party matter that has fractured a country. Well done Tories.
Too little, too late 😒
Nah, the problem stems from people who didn’t take the voting seriously enough to go out and vote. So the minority won with their fear, because so many sat home. They wanted a do-over after they lost. Shows how much idiots who don’t exercise their right feel afterwards..😒
He should be flogged once a week.
Getting to the dizzy heights in politics usually relies on connections and/wealth. Cameron had both. Sadly these attributes rarely get us inspired leaders as has been proven in the past 3 years
Way to close the barn door now that the horses have been running free for a couple years.
He sounds like a mystery person🤔
Very much sorrow for him.....
Maybe he should Brexit first and report back.
cameron does not exist anymore
Cameron was weak. The current disruption is his fault. He shouldn't have run the vote, but having decided to, he should have been clearer about no deal versus deal. And once run, he should have stayed to implement it. Cameron is a useless coward.
What David_Cameron really means is that he’s sorry for giving British citizens a voice— sad
'oops!'
Cameron gets a conscience. Anyone would think he has a book to promote.
Who?
He is sorry?
