Tim Beck, Ohio State's former co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach that served as an early mentor to Joe Burrow, has accepted the head coaching job at Coastal Carolina.

Beck — often credited as one of Joe Burrow's early mentors during the eventual Heisman winner's time with the Buckeyes — became co-offensive coordinator for Ohio State in wake of Tom Herman's departure to Houston following the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship. When Herman eventually made a move to Texas, Beck followed him to become the outright offensive coordinator for the Longhorns as well as their quarterbacks coach.

Coastal Carolina makes this hire in wake of their former coach Jamey Chadwell leaving for a seven-year deal at Liberty, a vacancy that came about in wake of Hugh Freeze taking the job at Auburn. Chadwell had helped the Chanticleers develop a reputation for owning one of the more aesthetically-appreciated offenses in recent seasons by way of their triple option RPO-focused attack led by quarterback Grayson McCall, a presumed future NFL draft pick.

Though McCall amassed a 28-3 record as a starter the past three seasons to go along with over 7,700 passing yards and 75 touchdown passes against just seven interceptions, the Chanticleers never managed to win an outright Sun Belt Conference title. Coastal Carolina had their appearance in the 2020 conference title game cancelled due to COVID-19 protocols, while a late-season foot injury compromising McCall's availability resulted in the Chanticleers losing 45-26 to Troy yesterday.

Beck's deal with Coastal Carolina runs for five seasons and will compensate him roughly a million dollars per year,
