Court documents allege that Staley became abusive toward his then 61-year-old mother, Bertha, though the parties resolved the matter without arrests or further incidents. In his lawsuit, Staley claimed his mother suffered emotional issues. Staley still lost his job because, he claims, the city made outlandish demands of him, including telling him to ban particlular trucks from crossing an Elba bridge, though the city had no way to check weight.
The 622-page lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court on Thursday seeks a jury trial. Staley also indicates the firing could have been racially motivated. He is Black and the defendants are white.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
