When Bishop arrived at the venue with her partner, David Panton, “Melania was standing by and assumed that [David] was the foreign minister," Bishop recalled during an interview Saturday with journalist Annabel Crabb at the Adelaide Festival. “This went on for a while,” Bishop said, recalling that it was the president who finally explained to the first lady that she was in fact the foreign minister.
“It can be pretty lonely. You keep very much to yourself as a woman,” Bishop said about her career in politics, according to the Australian ABC. "You don’t go out drinking with the boys — it’s just not the same camaraderie ... Parliament House is not a family-friendly place.”

Yes, this happens. But, the bigger story is that Melania and the Trump administration are so woefully unprepared for the basics of the job.

Well, to put it into perspective, Melania considers herself a President's wife, so she has been known to drop the ball on occasion.
I’d assume Ivan’s was a gold digging whore with no morals. But that’s just cause of her dad. Mostly.
If this story is true, it bothers me less that Melania assumed the foreign minister was a man and more that she had so little interest in the people she was about to meet that she didn't bother to learn ahead of time. (I really don't care, do u?)

Melania's spokeswoman is quoted as saying the story is false and then in the very next line, confirms the invite to the 'partners' lunch. Not the brightest people.
Sad, but what can you expect from Melania? The woman is practically dead inside... at least emotionally. You can't expect her to have any awareness (self or other) when she's trying to plan an escape from her captor.
