Former Alabama football player and athletics director Steve Sloan dies

“During his many years as an assistant football coach at Florida State, Georgia Tech, and the University of Alabama, head coach at Vanderbilt University, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, and Duke, and Athletics Director at UA, North Texas, Central Florida, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Steve impacted countless lives for the better,” says Ford.He authored two books, “A Whole New Ball Game” and “Calling life’s signals: The Steve Sloan story”.

Following the news of Sloan’s passing, the University of Alabama posted the following statement on X, formerly known as Twitter. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Steve Sloan. His remarkable legacy as an All-American player, coach and athletics director left an enduring impression on our University. Steve’s persistent dedication to college athletics left an enduring impact on countless student-athletes.
