Ford Retires Its Thankless Small SUV Alternative, the Transit Connect Van

Ford gave its official reasoning for ending the Transit Connect with excuses of reducing global manufacturing costs and complexity along with"decreased demand for the compact van segment." A segment you probably didn't even realize existed because Ford sure as hell didn't advertise it to anyone.

In fact, the entire van segment is woefully under advertised; commercial van sales fell 11 percent on the whole from the first three quarters of 2021 to the first three of 2022, with the Transit being the best seller, itself suffering a 13 percent sales decline in that period, according toCommercial trucks and SUVs also have higher profit margins, so most dealers don't bother selling their customers on anything else.

I looked at this but wasn't able to make a deal because of dealer markups

Except it's not. It's to utilitarian, people want some luxury with their ride.

I don’t like these small vans like this and the promaster city. Normal Minivans like the Chrysler Pacifica and the Kia carnivals are way better than those vans. I don’t really care about this van. Would of be nice if Ford makes a new minivan like the 2024 Ford Windsor maybe?

They should keep the cargo version. GM did this years ago by killing off the Astron van,same with the Mercedes Matris . there's a market for small cargo vans.

And what about safety? These small transits have been used by churchgoers to collect their flock. If I remember correctly, the safety stats were not particular stellar. But I might be wrong...

My parents needed a vehicle that could haul grandkids but was small enough to dolly tow behind their RV. Transit Connect was the perfect fit. They absolutely love it. It's thrifty, reasonably peppy, great visibility, headroom for days, and it's nimble in traffic. Great li'l van.

Like the Ford Flex and several other vehicles like the Taurus, Ford refused to properly advertise and position this vehicle in the marketplace.
