Seton Hall Prep defensive coordinator Ed Stinson led Hoboken and its Wing-T attack to six state titles in 22 seasons back in his head coaching days.
“We’ve wanted to do this the whole year,” senior running back Mike Dunmore added. “Some stuff went wrong early in the regular season. We have an old team and we weren’t stepping up enough for the younger guys. Throughout the weeks, it kept getting better and better. We put it all together today.” “We have to be unselfish,” head coach Bill Fitzgerald said of his team’s offensive effort. “That’s the key. We also have to be patient and we have to trust. I think we did that today.”
“It’s our league,” Fitzgerald said. “We played Don Bosco tough and we played St. Joe’s tough. We’ve been in tough situations in the past and some had gone our way. Early in the season, they didn’t. I think we were prepared for days like today in going against a very good team.”The Falcons concluded their season 7-3 and were on a six-game win streak entering Saturday, including a colossal 10-6 victory at then-No. 9 Pope John in Week 9.
They lost to the Green Knights on the road in a 30-21 final in Week 8. St. Joseph worked without senior running back Yasin Willis and junior wide receiver Jovon Williams in the game, but this contest could’ve went either way down the stretch.
