Junge and his teammates on the defensive line force quarterbacks to throw the ball earlier than they want and allow linebackers in the second level to roam on run plays without too much interference. It’s unsung work, but someone has to do it, and Junge is happy to oblige.Casual fans can easily see the flash plays that teammates such as linebackermake, like the fumble recovery and sack he had Friday. But without Junge helping clog up the middle, those opportunities wouldn’t be as common.
“Having guys like Nick in front of me helps me get tackles,” Lynch said. “Obviously, when there’s less pressure, it’s harder to see where the ball is coming from and harder to fill gaps because gaps are closed up. When guys like Nick are doing their job, it’s easier to see where the ball is at.”
