Rugby - Folau found guilty of 'high level' breach of code of conduct

SYDNEY - Wallabies fullback Israel Folau moved a step closer to being sacked by Rugby Australia after he was adjudged on Tuesday to have committed a high-level breach of the player’s code of conduct with a social media post.

“The panel has today provided a judgement that Israel Folau committed a high-level breach of the Professional Players’ Code of Conduct with his social media posts on April 10, 2019,” Rugby Australia said in a news release. Both bodies said they would do just that after Folau shared the post on Instagram last month, declaring that it had “disrespected” people on the basis of their sexuality.

A high profile recruit to the sport in 2013, the former rugby league international and Australian Rules player last month became the top try scorer in the history of Super Rugby. The 30-year-old now looks highly unlikely to play for the Waratahs or Australia again and the Wallabies will go to this year’s World Cup in Japan without one of their few world class players.
