Florida's largest teachers' union files suit against state over school reopenings

The largest teachers' union in Florida filed a lawsuit Monday against Gov. Ron DeSantis over his administration's push to fully reopen all public schools next month — even as coronavirus cases in the state are spiking.

The Florida Education Association accused DeSantis and other state officials of violating a state constitutional mandate to keep public schools"safe and secure." The union asked a state court in Miami to halt the governor's reopening edict, according to a copy of the suit obtained by NBC News.names several defendants: DeSantis, Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran, the Florida Department of Education and the Florida State Board of Education.

While schools plan on reopening, we're raising funds so teachers don't have to buy masks and hand sanitizer out of their own pocket (like they do all other supplies). Can you help?

Im uk have a 7yr old grandchild his mom dosnt really want him to return to school in september... But it been made compulsory parents get fined £100 if you dont send children back !! How can a teacher be expected to socially distance a class of 30 kids ?

The chance of a kid to die from coronavirus is 1 in 20 million and the chance of a teacher under 65 is 79 in a million (0.0079%), much less without serious preconditions. Crossing a street is far more dangerous. The lawsuit by the union is not to protect teachers, but political.

The states that have handled the outbreak the best, even with low case numbers, are very couscous about reopening schools. Even my state Vermont which has the lowest number of cases in the country is incredibly cautious about reopening.
