Florida officials clarify that they don't want people to go out and kill iguanas 'whenever possible'

Florida wildlife officials are toning down their language after releasing a statement earlier this month that encouraged homeowners to kill green iguanas"whenever possible."

They admit that they may have gone a bit overboard in letting people know the non-native and invasive species can be killed anytime and without a permit. "Unfortunately, the message has been conveyed that we are asking the public to just go out there and shoot them up," Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commissioner Rodney Barreto said in a Thursday statement."This is not what we are about; this is not the 'wild west,'" Barreto added.

Not in Puerto Rico. When in Puerto Rico, please kill them ASAP. You would do the island a big favor. Thanks.

Why not? They’re invasive, and cause serious destruction (even to roads). Why not have an open season on them?

The crazy thing is wild hog, boa constrictor and I believe coyote are all open season hunting without permits. Unless you’re planning on selling any of the animal products the. You need a trappers permit for at least coyote.

I lived in Mexico for a few years. Iguanas are generally abrasive, especially because they believe your apartment is actually theirs and they will defend their squatting aggressively. When humans fight back and eat them - it doesn't taste like chicken
