"Fibroids are a strange thing because a lot of women do have them, but it's kind of like to what extent do you have them," explained Twigs. "Almost like eyesight, like some people need contact lenses, some people are long-sighted or short-sighted, and then some people can't see. It's on a scale of severity.
In tandem with physical healing, Twigs grappled with the fact that Black women are more likely to suffer from fibroid tumors the way she did, underlining factors such as access to adequate nutrition, internalized stress, and inherited trauma. "To be honest with you, when I first started properly looking into it, it made me really angry," she explained. "I just started to see what a disadvantage women of color are at.
