Phinney Lake in Duchesne County , Utah, is seen in this undated file photo The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources on Monday issued an emergency change for Fall Creek in Duchesne County , where anglers were given permission to increase the daily number of trout they can catch ahead of a major project happening in the summer of 2025., licensed anglers are allowed to take home four trout per day. The emergency change issued Monday quadrupled that number to 16.
DWR issued the increase as the state prepared to remove non-native species from waters by treating the creek and its tributaries - including Phinney and Anderson lakes - with the piscicide rotenone. “This emergency change will allow the public to harvest more fish from the drainage before the treatment takes place next year,” the division's director, J. Shirley, said in a statement.
The goal is to restore the area's cutthroat trout population, which has decreased due to "habitat loss, breeding with non-native trout and competition from non-native trout," according to DWR, which noted that the cutthroat's presence in its native rivers and lakes has seen a decline across the West.Stay Connected
