All CX-50s sold in Canada will have AWD and a choice of two engines. The base engine is a 2.5L I4 making 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. It returns 9.7 L/100 km in the city and 7.9 L/100 km on the highway. Up from there is Mazda’s familiar 2.5L turbocharged I4. That engine makes 256 hp and 320 lb-ft on 93-octane fuel and 227 hp and 310 lb-ft when run on 87. Drivers can expect 10.4 L/100 km in the city and 8.1 on the highway.
Coming to dealers this May, the CX-50 is an impressive mix of attractive and thoughtful design, off-road capabilities, and on-road manners. We can’t imagine many people choosing the CX-5 while the CX-50 exists and it’s exciting to see Mazda trying out a new direction.
