A neighbor, who called police and spoke to News4JAX on a condition of anonymity, said she was in her bedroom when she heard the gunshots.

Jacob Tomlinson, 35, was charged with aggravated animal cruelty, unlawfully discharging a firearm and unlawful euthanasia. Because Tomlinson is a firefighter, his mug shot is exempt from being made public.

“I heard three loud pops. I came outside, and that’s when I heard a fourth pop,” she said. “At that point, my dad came outside and talked with the neighbor who owned the house, and he said everything was fine.”According to the arrest warrant, the owner of the house was Tomlinson’s father. The woman said she went to her kitchen window to get a better look.

She said she recorded this video of Tomlinson digging a hole in the ground. Investigators said that’s where he buried the dog, and according to the arrest report, the dog may still have been alive when it was buried.

I’m as big an animal lover as anyone, but see this as cruel only in the way he did it. Most dogs are terrified and stressed by trips to the vet. Putting the dog down in a familiar surrounding could have been more humane IF he had done it with one shot to the head.

When it comes to animal abuse I always advocate that the punishment should fit the crime. I'll leave it at that.

Sounds like he did the right thing.

I can’t even imaging how terrifying this dog’s final moments were. I hope that THEJFRD fires this disgusting human.

What a sadistic monster! That poor dog 😭

Animal shelters struggle against overflow of abandoned petsSome shelters, like the Weber County Animal Shelter, can't take in any more dogs. They need volunteers, food and adoptions, and they need them right away. Before you take on a pet, learn its average lifespan, project out your own future that far, and ask yourself if your life (how your time is spent, finances, living situation, etc.) is conducive to properly caring for the pet for its full life. If it’s a no, don’t get the pet.
