FHP: 8 dead, at least 40 injured when farmworkers’ bus overturns in Marion County

A bus carrying farmworkers in central Florida overturned on Tuesday, killing eight people and injuring about 40 other passengers, authorities said. – At least eight people were killed and about 40 more were injured Tuesday morning when a bus transporting more than 50 farm workers and a Ford Ranger collided on State Road 40 in Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.Recommended Videos

According to FHP, a 2010 International retired school bus was headed west on SR 40 and a 2001 Ford Ranger was headed east when the pickup crossed the middle lane and sideswiped the bus, sending the bus careening off the roadway.More than 30 ambulances responded to the scene and about 40 people were taken to hospitals to be treated for injuries, some that were serious.Marion County Sheriff Billy Wood said those on the bus were migrant workers and had proper documentation.
