After World War I, he became a leading figure in the conservative Return to Order movement, calling for a rejection of the avant-garde in favor of more traditional art. Casorati’s most famous work was the, featuring a stern woman from a symmetrical, frontal view in front of an open window. The artist taught and exhibited widely, gaining the First Prize at the Venice Biennale in 1939. His later work is marked by a softer palette and gentler perspective than his earlier compositions.
