By Matt Zapotosky Matt Zapotosky National security reporter covering the Justice Department Email Bio Follow March 14 at 3:06 PM Federal prosecutors on Thursday brought terrorism and other serious charges against five people arrested last year on a New Mexico compound, alleging in a new indictment that the group was gathering weapons and training in their squalid quarters to kill FBI and military personnel.
“The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to provide material support in preparation for violent attacks against federal law enforcement officers and members of the military,” Assistant Attorney General John Demers said in a statement announcing the charges. “Advancing beliefs through terror and violence has no place in America.
Some of the initial state child abuse charges in the case, though, fell apart, and federal authorities initially only charged them with weapons offenses. The Justice Department said all five are in custody and awaiting trial. Defense attorneys for each did not immediately provide comment.
I'm glad the government is finally doing something about these Christian militias.
Christopher Paul Hasson, arrested with a shitload of guns and with a plan to launch an attack on democrats, not considered a terrorist. But, Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, Hujrah Wahhaj, Subhanah Wahhaj are. Weird, no? BTW, they are all terrorists.
Those guys messed up. They should have been white so that they wouldn’t be charged with terrorism. Had they been white nationalists they would be in far less trouble, even with the same plans and violations. Next time they’ll know better.
