On Friday, a federal judge upheld an asylum policy that allows 30,000 monthly asylum seekers from Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Haiti, to enter the U.S.The court rejected a challenge brought by Texas and 20 other Republican-controlled states that claimed the Department of Homeland Security lacked the authority to implement the program. U.S. District Judge Drew B.

U.S. District Court Judge Drew Tipton in Victoria, Texas, said the 21 states, led by Texas, lacked standing to pursue the 2023 lawsuit because they could not show that the"parole" program, which allows up to 30,000 people per month to enter the U.S., caused them any injury. U.S. District Judge Drew B. Tipton ruled that Texas and 20 other Republican-led states didn’t have legal standing in the lawsuit because they didn’t demonstrate suffered financial harm from the federal program, the Associated Press reported. The program lets a total of up to 30,000 asylum-seekers enter the U.S. each month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
