Federal rules previously made gay and bisexual men wait 12 months before donating blood. That wait has been shortened to three months. LGBTQ rights advocates say the wait time should be removed altogether.

LGBTQ rights advocates cautiously welcomed the policy change, saying federal officials should remove all wait times for gay men, saying such a rule stigmatizes gay and bisexual men. Ellis added:"We will keep fighting until the deferral period is lifted and gay and bi men, and all LGBTQ people, are treated equal to others."

I know a bisexual guy who was deferred from ever giving blood in the '90's and he says he still gets turned away at blood drives.
