The FDA and the FTC sent warning letters to 3 companies that market cannabidiol products, saying the companies are making false claims about treating diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's.

However, on Tuesday, the FDA said that it will hold its first public hearing on May 31 to explore how CBD can be used safely in food, supplements and cosmetics.

"We’ve seen, or heard of interest in, products containing cannabis or cannabis derivatives that are marketed as human drugs, dietary supplements, conventional foods, animal foods and drugs, and cosmetics, among other things," FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said in the statement Tuesday. CBD, or cannabidiol, comes from the hemp plant, a close relative to another member of the cannabis family, marijuana. Both plants contain abundant types of cannabinoids, but marijuana is high in the psychoactive chemical THC, while hemp is rich in CBD, the non-psychoactive component of cannabis.

CBD is widely sold as a medicinal product in a vast array of products, including CBD-infused lattes, massage lotions and baked goods, but there's little evidence that it does anything in the human body. So far, there is only one use for CBD approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and that’s as a treatment for two rare forms of epilepsy.Dr.

There is something to it, my Dad had pancreas cancer, he grew his own plants and made CBD juice, he lived longer than they thought he would. The pharmacist even asked Dad for the recipe!

Did SGottliebFDA call CBD an opiod in the article? I went to his page but he must have deleted it. As well he should since it's derived from Cannabis. Gotta wonder about that though.

For cancer it helps with pain management ,nausea from chemo, increases appetite. for alzheimers, it stimulates the brain and creates new connections to help the symptoms.

Needs watching.

The FDA seizes kratom imports even though it is legal. You can’t sell kratom for internal use though, which is ridiculous because it helps so many people. The FDA needs some serious revision.

Keep kratom legal!!!

Just another way to try to stifle the Marijuana market...why don't you go ask the hundreds of thousands of people who have found relief with CBD...I know Republicans love their prescription meds, so you know...

Great to see the FDA and the FTC are doing their job on this. Thanks to all the government employees who are trying hard to stay on top of this emerging market.

Even as a Republican, I believe Marijuana should be legal. The economic gain that would be had from it, is incredible. Also more research can go into studies regarding the health benefits.

Would love to see a story on why Denmark is banning the burqa 🤣

FDA proposes mammogram changes for first time in 20 years to identify breast cancer earlyWomen with dense breasts will be notified that they are at a higher risk of developing breast cancer and that X-ray results aren't always as accurate for them. Yes I have dense breast I found a lump in 1999 and was told it was dry milk. In 2013 they found a 10 pound tumor in that same breast. I was diagnosed with stage 3b inflammatory breast cancer. I was belittled, blackballed, and terminated by my oncologist. This is a good change. If a girl knows she has dense breasts, and mammograms aren’t reliable for her, what else can be done? Ultrasound, MRI? I couldn’t get the hospital to do an ultrasound even with orders from my oncologist. I hope this will make thorough testing easier.
