A father and son duo who journeyed from Central Texas to Padre Island National Seashore to gather seashells discovered something more precious instead. Markus Hogue and his son Gabriel , 12, found a message in a bottle that had washed ashore and was peaking out at them from a pile of debris, KXAN News reported. “We were walking and saw a lot of debris and then saw a bottle and were surprised when we picked it up and saw a note in there,” Hogue told the television station.

They smashed it to find two pieces of paper. One was a map of ocean currents, and the second was a letter in Spanish from two parents who wanted their daughter to know how much they loved her. There was also a phone number.
