Peter Dinklage in the penultimate episode of “Game of Thrones,” the most-watched episode in the show’s history. By Travis M. Andrews Travis M. Andrews Pop culture reporter covering music, movies, TV, comedy and celebrity culture Email Bio Follow May 15 at 11:54 AM By this point, it’s clear that many — if not most — “Game of Thrones” fans aren’t pleased with the speedy conclusion of the HBO show’s eight-season story.
One of the most criticized scenes this year was also one of the most unexpected, and not in a positive way. It came in the fourth episode, as Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow, Grey Worm, Missandei, a bunch of Unsullied and others head to King’s Landing to demand Cersei’s surrender, immediately after defeating the army of the undead. Euron and the Iron Fleet appear, catching everyone off guard. Euron fires off a few projectiles from his scorpions, which kill Rhaegal the dragon.
“Game of Thrones” creators and executive producers David Benioff, left, and D.B. Weiss at the final season premiere at Radio City Music Hall in April in New York. The showrunners addressed this minutes after the credits rolled. At one time, “Game of Thrones” trafficked in surprise and spectacle. Truly unexpected moments such as the Red Wedding or jaw-dropping productions such as the Battle of the Bastards kept fans hanging around digital water coolers long into the week after the eventful episodes.
I loved it! The ending was perfect!
Ended almost the way I thought, Jon back at the wall. Only surprise was Bran on the Thorne leading to a Democratic society.
A demographic breakdown of the Fans Who are Critics might be revealing
Fans were expecting a happier ending or a better lead-up of why Daenerys turned into a villain overnight?
I loved it and have no criticisms. These assholes complaining can scrape up the cash and make their own damn show.
We don’t “love to criticize it”. The writers ruined the show in this last season.
Well now..really..is it any wonder
Wut? hoo?
Ready. Not ready.
Pretty loose use of the word “they.”
Only certain ones. And the press encourages it!
Maybe it has something to do with the writing being 'okayish' in season 7 and complete trash in season 8? Compared to the first 4 seasons, it's basically a different show now.
Mediocre writing makes for bad viewing. This season is just bad writing.
That’s the world we live in now.
The director and the author apparently were not on the same page.. literally and figuratively
That’s because HBO is rushing thru this season to shelve it. You can’t just do that after dragging us thru 7 seasons. 6 episodes.... horrendous
Folks need to relax their sphincters and just enjoy the damn show! Stop micromanaging!
we love the books. The show is garbage made to appeal to the lowest common denominator
Sirken3 Well when you give fans something with high quality then lower it what did they think would happen?
Unless you’ve never watched it like me. And due to this I am not one to be critical.
It was never that good. People are coming to their senses. 😂
Tough love.
Let it be disappointment, then.
And the rest of us just want it over so fans stop talking about it! Good grief!
Just the conclusion. It was a really good show...then they started trying to conform everything to a rushed ending. They needed to start planning all of this out years in advance, but they allowed it to get away from them.
Really stoked I didn't waste 8 years of my life watching this show like everyone else
E5 tried to recreate the shock of Ned's beheading & the Red Wedding, but it flopped. It's impossible to pull off plot twists that big unless you plan them from the start. Using hindsight to cherry-pick bits of previous seasons as 'foreshadowing' isn't enough to make it work.
If they don't like it the Dragon Queen will incinerate them!!!! Just enjoy the show and get over yourselves!!!!
Whatever, they'll all still be watching tonight, I'll bet.
Isn’t that how all things work in this culture now?
And apparently the WP loves tweeting about it 🙈🤔 don’t you have more important stories on Syria? Venezuela? 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This fan still loves it 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
It’s not that bad. It simply doesn’t live up to the shows promise at the beginning but that can be said of many shows. Their ending doesn’t discredit the whole universe like some have. Well not yet anyway.
Yes. Because this season sucks.
They did seem to be in a hurry to finish this season. Still better than reruns...
No. That’s bullshit. I LOVE it. Stop hating and find another show to watch if you don’t like it. Maybe Thomas the train.
Some fans.
When D&D realized they got Star Wars, they decided to rush the ending to get it over with.
And media loves to fake watch TV shows and talk about them.
They do not. I'd much rather appreciate good writing than criticise bad writing. The writing for season 8 has been absolutely awful.
because they made us wait a damn year plus for 6 episodes then turned the good guys into bad guys calling it art. Then, rather than apologize and re-release the dark episode they criticize our televisions
The criticism is overblown. I don't see that it is all that different from any other season, except that it feels rushed
Still love it.
Kind of like Democrats with America.
I think it’s amazing.
Stellar cast but terrible writing since book content ran out
And the producers are laughing all the way to the bank.
I think that D&D dont knew how to write the final season, so they wrote any shit to end the show, but i still loving GoT
Dracarys to you WP !!!
On the bright side, no one will ever try to make a show this ambitious again. Make a crappy sitcom and you don't attract lunatic fanatics who feel they own the show.
These are then not fans, but judgemental bastards who should read more and expect be spoilt less. Move along.
Welcome to cyclical fandom. Not new.
Yeah because it’s horrid now. You can’t even tell what half the characters are thinking. They just get from point a to b with no explanation.
'Welcome' - Star Wars fans
Welcome to Mustafar.

Well that’s because it used to be good.
