“Bigger Than The Whole Sky,” a bonus track on the “3am” edition of the just-released CD, describes a heartbreaking loss, although it does not go into detail about what caused the grief.
“No words appear before me in the aftermath / Salt streams out my eyes and into my ears,” the Swift, 32, croons in the first verse. “Every single thing I touch becomes sick with sadness / ‘Cause it’s all over now, all out to sea.” The second verse goes on to describe having to say goodbye to someone without ever getting to meet them.
“Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye / You were bigger than the whole sky / You were more than just a short time / And I’ve got a lot to pine about/ I’ve got a lot to live without.”Swift continues, “I’m never gonna meet / What could’ve been, would’ve been / What should’ve been you / What could’ve been, would’ve been you.”
Although it’s unclear what inspired the song — or if Swift even wrote it from her own perspective — fans took to Twitter to speculate about the heartbreaking lyrics.Heads up to my fellow miscarriage mamas: Bigger Than The Whole Sky off Taylor Swift’s new album is rough, and I’d suggest listening with some tissues when you’re not already feeling raw ❤️
