Civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump has been retained by the family of Roger Fortson, a 23-year-old active-duty Senior Airman who was fatally shot by an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Deputy on Friday, May 4.

According to Crump ’s office, Roger enlisted in the military after graduating from high school with honors and had no criminal record. OKALOOSA COUNTY , Fla. -

I immediately placed the deputy on administrative leave and have asked the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to conduct the investigation that is required in such incidents.At this time, we humbly ask for our community’s patience as we work to understand the facts that resulted in this tragic event.”

Those representing the family said that Roger was concerned and had grabbed his legally owned gun but as he was walking back to the living room law enforcement busted through the door.
