The Netflix miniseries ‘Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’ about the late serial killer has been catching controversy for being insensitive and exploitative towards the victims’ families who continue to grieve.

scripted drama and the ways it has forced them to relive and be retraumatized by such a tragic experience. , Isbell, whose emotional victim impact statement was recreated word-for-word onscreen by DaShawn Barnes, wrote that what she saw of the series “bothered me, especially when I saw myself – when I saw my name come across the screen and this lady saying verbatim exactly what I said.” Suddenly, “it felt like reliving it all over again,” she explained.

“The episode with me was the only part I saw. I didn't watch the whole show. I don't need to watch it. I lived it. I know exactly what happened,” she continued. “Like recreating my cousin having an emotional breakdown in court in the face of the man who tortured and murdered her brother is WILD,” Perry wrote on Twitter, while resharing a side-by-side video of Isbell’s testimony.

He also explained why the show was triggering for her and the rest of their family. “It’s retraumatizing over and over again, and for what?” I’m not telling anyone what to watch, I know true crime media is huge rn, but if you’re actually curious about the victims, my family are pissed about this show. It’s retraumatizing over and over again, and for what? How many movies/shows/documentaries do we need?

Netflix shoulda ask for their consent and give all the money to the victims’ families!

that's what every movie about a serial k!iller is all about

Been watching it and I’m not sure I feel this is true. They’ve been very good at giving background on several victims & the grief & pain the families went thru and showing them as victims. It’s been incredibly well done, dark, intense and showing what a monster he was.

Guess they should had talk with the familiesfirst. Which is understandable
