FILE - In this Friday, June 12, 2015, file photo, demonstrators carry signs in Martinsburg, W.Va., as they protest the killing of Winchester, Va., resident Wayne Jones by Martinsburg police on March 13, 2013. The city of Martinsburg has agreed to settle an excessive force lawsuit filed by the family of Jones, a homeless Black man, who was shot 22 times by police.
“I promised my mother before she died that we would continue to fight for justice,” Jones’ brother, Bruce Jones, told the newspaper. “The settlement makes me feel a little bit better, but until I can have a chance to have these cops prosecuted, I am still going to be pushing for justice.”The Martinsburg Police Department said in a statement that the settlement was not an admission of guilt.
The court also referenced the Memorial Day death of George Floyd, a Black man who died in Minneapolis after white police officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee to Floyd’s neck for several minutes. That death prompted protests by millions of people around the world
Family of a homeless man? Apparently came out of the woodwork for the cash but where were they when he needed them?
It’s time the USA joined the rest of the civilised world and began a serious commitment to gun reform. It’s the 21st Century FFS! GunReform GunsEqualNoPeace
I can’t even count to 22, so I know that is excessive
You'd think white people would get more pissed about gov'ts having to spend their tax dollars this way instead of just not killing black people.
It was the 22nd bullet that killed him. This might be an example of excessive force I’ve been hearing.
22 times? Jesus.
A homeless man with family gets money for his death. Sounds kosher.
22 times. And you wonder why people aren’t happy with the police. 22 times.
Just statistics in the USA. Blacks killed by whites - 2% Blacks killed by police - 1% Whites killed by police - 3% Whites killed by whites - 16% Whites killed by blacks - 81% Blacks killed by blacks - 97% So. Black lies matter. STOP BLM VIRUS!
FUCK BLM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm very sorry for the loss of this mans life. He was homeless. Yet, he has 'family' that files a lawsuit. Where were they when he was homeless?
he stabbed a cop after being tazed twice, guessing panic fire ensued.
Now they need to arrest the cops that killed Breonna Taylor and Elijah McClain GovAndyBeshear GovofCO SayHerName SayHisName
Sure . . . Now the family cares because they see a $3.5 million dollar cash cow! Why was the dude homeless? Where was the family then!?!?!
it would be so great if a court said NFW, you can’t settle, because we are gonna prosecute these sadistic murderers and the police force they work* for. *i assume the cops are still employed, no?
Terrible. Poor homeless man.
Always a payout. What's your own life worth ? Mine is Priceless & can not be bought bribed in any way shape or form.
