Families of three workers at an Iowa meat plant who died of the coronavirus sued Tyson Foods and its top executives, saying the company knowingly put employees at risk and lied to them. Tyson says its safety measures meet or exceed federal guidelines.

This undated photo provided by the family of Sedika Buljic shows Buljic in Waterloo, Iowa. Sedika Buljic died on April 18 at the age of 58 after contracting the coronavirus. Buljic's estate and the estates of two other deceased employees are suing Tyson Foods, saying the company put workers at its Waterloo pork processing plant at risk during a huge virus outbreak and lied to keep them working.

As the outbreak grew, the company failed to implement safety measures, allowed some sick and exposed employees to remain on the production line, and falsely assured workers and the public that the plant was safe, the suit alleges. The largest union representing meatpacking workers said Thursday that more than 14,000 employees at unionized plants have been infected with coronavirus and 65 have died.

At least two other Waterloo workers have died after contracting the virus, which infected more than 1,000 of the plant’s 2,800 workers and hasWith illnesses mounting, Tyson refused calls from local leaders to close the plant for several days and lobbied the governor to keep it open, the suit alleges. The county sheriff. who visited the plant April 10, has said he was shaken by seeing workers in crowded conditions without face coverings and pressed Tyson to close.

John H. Tyson asserted in a newspaper ad in April that the “food supply chain is breaking” due to plant closures and warned that customers would see meat shortages at grocery stores.

Rinse and repeat at every manufacturing facility in America. If they are successful, there will be hundreds more similar lawsuits.

See this is what happens when there are changes made in the federal government regulations and cut backs to appease large corporations such as this. They get to fall back on oh we were following the procedures...

There are federal guidelines!?!?!?!?

💔💔💔

Bankrupt Tyson Foods.

altusda Trump's federal guidelines? Yeah that's not saying much.

Before this came out I only bought Tyson chicken. I win never do that again.

Too bad the families of the animals they kill can’t sue the company.

Sad thing is that both sides' comments are correct.

Oh, the “new” federal guidelines under Trump? Oh, okay.

This is going to get worse. This what happens when there’s no national plan & a president who is not dealing in the world of reality. A country where the public is left to their own devices just to stay alive. A country without a sane & competent president.

Sue the construction company for knowingly building the structure to house Tyson Foods who planned to knowing put employees at risk in the future. Maybe even sue the Architect for designing said building 🤔

This why the Senate wants liability protection as part of the next stimulus plan. They want businesses to not be held accountable when they put their employees and customers at risk.

Because they never left the building and went home?

Illegal aliens suing for a golden parachute. It will come out they worked here illegally. Tyson will soon get rid of all illegals, because they just lost all the profits they thought they saved by hiring illegal. Give them their payout, then deport them.

sheilaaj Well first we have to investigate the processing plants for employing so many illegals.

I’ve been wondering when the lawsuits would start

Making people to choose between SAFETY AT HOME and the WORK MONEY DRENCHED IN COVID-19, fully aware which one they were going to choose - cunning like a FOX. Painful to note that those TOP EXECUTIVES remained safe at home.

Should’ve taken hcq. It works. Bad on them.

mbieseck One of many

In that case Cuomo would be in jail for life for what he did to NewYorkCity

They deserve to be sued. But good old Trump envoked the defense production act exactly one day before they were due to shut. This effectively gave them immunity from liability. I hope these people get a large settlement, but it’s going to be an uphill battle.

Legally can they prove (without a doubt) that those who died got it from the factory and no place else?

Go Vegan...screw Tyson...

Federal guidelines don’t seem good enough. Trump should wear mask 😷

Sir I search a drug that resolve all signs and symptoms of corona in a single dose that can play a major role in corona pandemics control of covid pandemics

Every employer is putting employees at risk if they are working from home and getting thrown back into offices. If WFH is working why make people leave their safe(r) homes if they prefer to stay there? Why force people to mingle with strangers, wear a mask, be at higher risk?

Tyson Foods is not responsible for a pandemic, just like they would not be responsible for a tornado.

Tyson is such a shitty company. Just watch Food Inc. they’re hell pits.

Yeah because trump watered down the guidelines and removed the liability. They were voluntary and only suggestions anyway not mandatory

Everything is awful

I am sorry for the loss of these three citizens and I hope that the lawsuit goes off without a hitch!

That's the problem. Federal guidelines are Trump guidelines, which mean no guidelines.

Lawyers are the worst.

now many of these people live in multi-family, or multi-generational homes? I’ll be the problem lies elsewhere and not at work. how many have underlying health conditions?

'its safety measures meet or exceed federal guidelines' Not saying much in a Trump ruled America.

The federal guidelines allow how many deaths at Tyson Foods?

Also sue FoxNews realDonaldTrump GOP TysonFoodsNews

Do federal guidelines even exist? There is no federal response to the corona virus. It's just 'Good luck you do something!'

It was all over the news, they were aware and now trying to capitalize on it.

Trump massmurder

YES SUE! I will never buy Tyson.

I can already tell you who the Republicans are going to side with.

Jesus, Trump Administration federal guidelines, that must be like dunking on a 4' goal.
