After an autism diagnosis, many families in Alaska are facing a shortage of outside help for their children with autism. According to Step-In Autism Services Executive Director Emily Ice, around 85 kids are currently on the waiting list to receive services.
With only 12 staff members serving 20 children, the wait time is about two years. Families are under pressure to start therapy early, but the lack of available services leaves them feeling stuck.
