Time for a fact check: Did Trump incorrectly claim Harvard 'took' coronavirus money intended for small businesses?

, the stimulus Trump signed into law in March. That provision provides money to universities and colleges on a formula, based in part on what share of its students are eligible for federal financial aid through the Pell Grant program.. That wasn't money the school applied for but rather was the amount available under the formula.

The law, which did not distinguish between schools with large or small endowments, requires schools to use half of the money for emergency aid grants to students who may be struggling because of the virus and allows them to use the other half for institutional costs to pay for changes to the delivery of instruction. Harvard had previously announced it would use 100% of its funding for students.

No the press said that Trump said if they did they’d have to give it back

More Trump flapdoodle. Endless amounts of 💩

Not true at least tell the truth but media lies

Fact-check yourself. Your reference to Michigan protesters blocking ambulances is debunked 4 days ago by your other article. You just wrote this one which even references your conflict. You idiots! mediaoversight

USAToday doing a fact check is hilarious! Harvard was going to take money from the Cares Act even though they could fund other colleges with their endowments. Trump never claimed they took money from small businesses. FakeNews lives..

He thanked the colleges today for not taking/returning the money so who cares.

realDonaldTrump CNN

'fact check' ? shiiit

No he did not. He was asked by a reporter, and said if they got money from PPE, he would get it back. He answered a question. And Harvard, among others did in fact give it back

Harvard should be awarding money to smaller poorer schools.

Media reported it wrong first.

Long before I heard Trump mention Harvard the press was stating it. What is it?

Trump has lied and will continue to lie and will still get votes... Smh

Trump Administration Boosts Pressure on Harvard Over Stimulus FundsThe Trump administration is continuing to pressure Harvard University to return nearly $9 million it would receive under the coronavirus stimulus package, a day after President Trump suggested those funds were intended to go to small businesses. You’d think they’d return it given the negative optics Harvard is sitting on an over $41 billion endowment. If you're upset about corporations getting stimulus funds and not upset about this, then you're a hypocrite. Better yet, tax it on all schools with a certain level of endowment $. Just like Obama taxed executive pay for Wall Street.
