Facebook Inc. formally announced plans to launch a cryptocurrency called Libra, promising a secure blockchain-based payment system backed by hard assets and designed for mainstream users.
Facebook named early Tuesday a series of big, corporate partners—including financial-services heavyweights Mastercard Inc. and PayPal Holdings Inc. and tech giants Uber Technologies Inc. and Spotify Technology S.A.—that it said will help it create a “secure, scalable and reliable” crytocurrency.

A centralized and regulated cryptocurrency, lol it’s the complete opposite of what bitcoin represents. They might as well just open a bank.

Why is Facebook allowed to “create” its own currency? How can this be legal tender in America? What is the potential uninteconsequences to a private company having its own currency? Many think FB is a “failed model” due to all the privacy issues.
What could possibly go wrong?
