Exploring the Love and Disappointments of Fredericksburg Restaurants

People love restaurants for deeply personal reasons. The break-ups and make-ups, the first times and the last times, that one thing that made you change the way you think about that one thing. And now maybe your long solar eclipse weekend. In more than 30 restaurant visits in Fredericksburg , I found so many things to love. Duck schnitzel at Otto’s, sub-freezing martinis at Chase’s Place, gochujang ribs at Eaker Barbecue.

But there’s only so much that even the Otto’s German Bistro team could do with a place that’s been around since 2004. August E’s had its moment, to be sure, in the years before Fredericksburg’s restaurant scene rose to meet its popularity, when it was one of just a handful of “nice” places in town.
