Water levels at the largest reservoir on the Colorado River — Lake Mead — have fallen to record lows. Along its perimeter, a white “bathtub ring” of minerals outlines where the high water line once stood, underscoring the acute water challenges for a region facing a growing population and a drought that is being worsened by hotter, drier weather brought on by climate change.
“We’re at a moment where we’re reckoning with how we continue to flourish with less water, and it’s very painful,” said Sarah Porter, director of the Kyl Center for Water Policy at Arizona State University.Water stored in Lake Mead and Lake Powell is divvied up through legal agreements among the seven Colorado River basin states, the federal government, Mexico and others.
Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming get water from tributaries and other reservoirs that feed into Lake Powell. Water from three reservoirs in those states has been drained to maintain water levels at Lake Powell and protect the electric grid powered by the Glen Canyon Dam.In the U.S., Arizona will be hardest hit and lose 18% of its share from the river next year, or 512,000 acre-feet of water. That’s around 8% of theNevada will lose about 7% of its allocation, or 21,000 acre-feet of water.
Water suppliers have planned for the shortage declaration by diversifying and conserving their water supply, such as by storing water in underground basins. Still, water cuts make it harder to plan for the future.

Might I suggest we stop wasting water on almonds
perhaps it's due to the non-existent climate change gripping the world. just a guess.
Good thing we have a steady stream of 10,000 unvaccinated and undocumented people per day coming here. They will surely solve any scarcity issues we have
A shame water restrictors haven't been mandatory for years, to help alleviate the needs today.
Solution: Hire the people currently our of work 'keystone'to build a pipeline from a great lake to Lake Mead or California wherever makes the most sense. If water leaks it doesn't hurt the environment.
Great
jennablan ...as LukeGromen correctly points out, Cleveland Ohio is the Saudi Arabia of fresh water...Here's to hoping all of those California Tech Titans and Phoenix tycoons move here to 'work from home' and drive up our property values before I retire and want to downsize..🤓
Oops.
Alert alert! Water is life! If California doesn’t start the infrastructure necessary to facilitate desalination, the West could become more like Death Valley.
We have spent trillions of dollars in Afghanistan and I’m not sure what we got in return for that. So how about using a part of the $1 trillion dollar infrastructure bill to strengthen America’s water supply. POTUS

They’re not going to do anything. If people can’t wear masks…what makes you think they’ll help conserve water
With wild fires someone said the forests lacked being raked. Trump With this loss of water I guess someone forgot to keep the plug in 🤣 This is a serious matter and one should consider global warming as a factor. Take action

This wasn't a surprise BTW
Worth the read. It’s not like some didn’t see this coming. Now. What will you do?
The problem isn't using water the problem is wasting it! That starts commercially
Wait, does that mean that building permits for subsidized housing are going to dry up too?
closer than we think
